Single blade + shower + moisturizing = better skin
From a “men’s skin care” perspective, a big problem, as a result of shaving, is ingrown hairs. When you shave your face with that razor – whether it’s a manual or an electric, you’re basically scraping your face with a very sharp metal object. And since facial hair is much coarser than hair on the rest of your body, it has a tendency to curl just a bit.
During your daily shave, the razor leaves a very sharp end to each whisker hair. When this hair starts to grow back it tends to curl on itself, thus embedding itself into your skin. Nice right?! Then you’ve got razor bumps, and some of them can end up inflamed and infected.
How can you handle this? Try these suggestions:
Use a manual razor with a single blade. The double and triple blades promise to give you a very close shave—and this sounds good but, the closer you shave, the more likely you are to have those hairs curling below the surface of your skin resulting in razor bumps and infected hairs.
Shave in the shower and use a good lubricating shave cream or gel. When your face is very wet there’s less friction, that means less chance for razor burn.
After shaving – MOISTURIZE YOUR FACE. No, you don’t have to use the perfumed products of your sweetheart. There are very good men’s products out there. Creams moisturize more than gels. Find one you like and use it. EVERY DAY!
Shave in the direction your hair grows. When you shave against it, you may get a closer shave, but you will increase the likelihood of developing ingrown hairs.
